Choir rehearsal assistance for high school vocal music teachers, churches... or any choral group anywhere
I had the pleasure of doing this very thing quite recently. A friend I used to sing with in Wichita State University's Madrigal Singers is the vocal music teacher at one of eleven public high schools here in Wichita. I had told a few teachers of my desire to help them rehearse their choirs to prepare for solo/ensemble festivals, or performances, and the high school teacher asked me to come and work with his Madrigal Singers. I had the extreme pleasure of working with the group, helping them with the fine tuning that is necessary to receive excellent ratings from the judges at festival.
My time with the ensemble solidified this part of the mission of PWGI. There are so many vocal music teachers who go to school every single day, and work with kids from different backgrounds, and with different levels of talent and ability. They rehearse, and rehearse, and rehearse, and plan, and discipline, and rehearse some more. I've done it. I know how challenging it is. And I know what kind of dedication it takes to keep going back - and what it takes to develop a choir to the point where they achieve choral excellence.
My intent is to be able to help any teacher, or any choral group, for that matter, who want rehearsal assistance. Because of my education, conducting experience, and long history as a member of choral groups of all kinds, I know what is necessary to achieve choral excellence. Until now, I haven't seen how it would be possible, because individual groups - schools or otherwise - don't have the funding for a "clinician." And school districts either don't have the funds available, or don't see the point in calling in someone extra, and to pay for their expertise. Basically the bottom line is, because I love it so much, I'm going to help out any choral group, whenever someone asks, and expect the funding to come in, so I'm able to pay for my expenses.
